'Suit's Akshay Kumar Fine'

Akshay Kumar makes a suit look good. Designer Narendra Kumar who styled Akshay Kumar for the advertisements of a suiting brand just can’t stop raving. “Most people are not comfortable in a suit…Akshay is,” he says adding, “The good thing about this campaign is that we have transformed the business suit into something fashionable.”

In the campaign, you’ll see Akshay wearing sharp-cut dressed down suits, but mind you, it’s not so much Italian Mafioso. “The look for Akshay is more English…It’s more of a slim-cut H Silhouette cut really close to the body, rather than an Italian V Silhouette,” Kumar explains.

And true to what he says, you’ll find Kumar wearing everything from white linen suits to sharp cut double breast suits worn with everything from canvas sneakers to chappals. “The great thing about Akshay is that he is associated with a younger image…someone that the younger professional and ‘out of college’ types look up to,” Kumar says adding that what also makes Akshay connect with the younger lot is his constant dabble into hip-hop on screen, something that once again makes him approachable to the boy on the street.

And, surprising as it may sound, that’s exactly what Kumar and a lot of the other designers are trying to do - make the suit more approachable to a younger market . However according to Kumar, Akshay’s new close cropped mop adds to his appeal, “Akshay for me is the poster boy modern man - not beefy, not skinny, but well toned and conscious of his body,” Kumar goes on.

Oh and just in case you are wondering, Akshay is currently no one designers’ man, so maybe Kumar will make a thread assault on the new super star. Maybe he will, but till then, he’s happy knowing that Akshay has hung on to 3-4 suits from the campaign for his personal use.
