SRK, Yash Raj films & Rajinikanth clash!

As interesting as the headline is the story itself. If reports smoking out of Bollywood are to be believed then we can witness the clash of Titans, we mean with regards to the film industry.

Red Chillies VFX, Yash Raj Films and Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya’s Ocher Studios will be vying with each other in the National Association of Broadcasters show to be held in Las Vegas on April 15.

The three production houses will also be making their presentations. Reports suggest that the production houses will also extend their service to not just desi but foreign films as well. The highest billing among these three production houses has been given to given to SRK’s Red Chillies VFX. Not to mention that SRK’s production has ventured into making animation films as well.

Rajinikanth’s Ocher Studios has ventured in to the production and making of the animated film ’Sultan - The warrior’, with a whooping budget of 70 crore rupees. Reports indicate that there is tough competition existing between Red Chillies VFX and Ocher Studios. And with Yash Raj films too coming out with an animation film titled ’Roadside Romeo’ the competition is getting stiffer.

Now the best we can do is just wait till the calender turns April 15th and watch who gets picked as the best!

Tanushree Dutta Under Controversy -Blacklisted?

The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has taken strong exception to allegations of "indecent behaviour" levelled against Bollywood actor Nana Patekar by upcoming star Tanushree Datta.

The MNS has written letters to different associations of cine producers to ’blacklist’ Tanushree for accusing a senior actor like Nana of bad behaviour during the shooting of an item number for the movie "Horn O.K. Pleassse" on Wednesday.

The organisation, which was recently in the news for its violence against the north Indians living in Mumbai, has threatened to agitate against the actress if she does not give an unconditional apology to the actor, whom it describes as the "pride of Maharashtra".

Meanwhile, producer of "Horn O.K. Pleassse," Sami Siddiqui, filed a complaint Saturday with the Association of Motion Picture and TV Programme Producers (AMPTPP) against Tanushree.

He alleged that his production firm, Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd, incurred a heavy loss because the actress failed to complete shooting for the item song being filmed on her and Nana.

In his complaint, Siddiqui also stated that the goodwill of his production firm was tarnished because Tanushree went to the media saying that she was "coerced" by director Rakesh Sarang and choreographer Ganesh Acharya to do steps in the item song she did not feel comfortable doing.

Acting quickly on the complaint, the AMPTPP dashed off a letter to the actress, asking her to pay a compensation of Rs.65 million. This would include Rs.15 million to Sunrise Pictures Pvt. Ltd. and Rs.50 million for defaming it in public.

Sunrise Pictures Pvt. Ltd. had signed Tanushree for Rs.1.5 million for the item number to be shot over four days. She had been paid an advance of Rs.500,000. According to Siddiqui, he as well as Sarang and Acharya had explained to Tanushree what her steps would be in the dance number.

"She had agreed to it," Siddiqui said."They (Sarang and Acharya) also agreed when she requested them not to compel her to wear a costume she would not be comfortable with. So we were surprised when she walked out of the sets on the last day of the shooting (March 26) after taking part in it for two days," Siddiqui told IANS Saturday.

On Friday, Tanushree shot off a letter to the Cine and Television Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) explaining the sequence of events that led to her stomping out of the sets and the scuffle that subsequently took place between media persons present on the sets and her secretary.

In her letter, the actress also referred to the "unbecoming" manner in which Nana Patekar behaved with her during shooting of the item number on the first day and why she felt the need to ask her parents and her secretary to be present during the shoots later.

CINTAA is yet to act on her letter, but it is likely to ask Patekar for his explanation.It is rarely that a member of a cine association complains against a fellow member. In this case, what makes it unique is that an upcoming star has lodged a serious complaint against a senior member at the risk of her budding career.

If rumours are to be believed, Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif may star in Sanjay Bansali’s new movie based on the stories regarding Pakistan ’s Heera Mandi famous for prostitutes.

Sanjay is being reported to buy the rights of a book of a famous Pakistani writer based on Heera Mandi’s paradise of whores. He may rope in Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Rani Mukherjee and Madhuri and also recent hot star Katrina for the roles of prostitute.

Aishwarya to reveal secrets about Salman

Actress AISHWARYA BACHCHAN will finally reveal many unknown secrets about her life in a book which she will write with the help of her mother Vrinda Rai who is an author. The book will tell the untold tales of her life prominent among them will be her short lived relationship with Salman Khan. The duo's relationship ended on a bitter note when Salman had allegedly threatened her next boyfriend Vivek Oberoi over the phone.

The book will also track her journey from a middle class home to be being crowned Miss World in 1994. The actress who has ruled over the hearts of millions in Bollywood will also talk about her being a part of the Bachchan family and the wife of Abhishek Bachchan. The untitled book which is expected to be a bestseller once it hits the markets.

Wedding Bells for Bhansali and Vaibhavi?

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant are all set to tie the knot at the end of next month. According to sources, the wedding will take place in March once Bhansali is back from Paris, where he is working on a musical Padmavati for the French opera houses Theatre du Chatelet.

According to sources, Vaibhavi's family is quite excited about the wedding and the preparations are on in full swing. Bhansali and Vaibhavi have been working together for several years. The choreographer has worked on Bhansali's films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Saawariya. But it is only recently that the two have been romantically linked. In the last couple of months, the couple, quite reclusive otherwise, has been seen together publicly and Vaibhavi's closeness to Bhansali's family was evident at the premiere of Saawariya. She walked into the premiere of the film along with Bhansali's mother Leela and sister Bela Saigal. It was obvious that Vaibhavi was more than a professional colleague. So far, there has been no official announcement from either of the two or their families. One can just wait and watch.

Bipasha and Katrina’s cold war

It is a known fact that Salman Khan and John Abraham do not get along. But it is surprising to see that things are not so rosy between their lady-loves either. It is believed that Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu who will be seen in Abbas Mastan’s forthcoming film Race didn’t even acknowledge each other on the sets of Race.

As Race is a highly stylized film, it is believed that to avoid problems on the sets, director Abbas Mastan made it clear to the actors that their look and costumes will be designed according to their scenes. This nipped any tiffs in the bud. While Sameera Reddy used to get along with everyone, Bipasha and Katrina were never seen talking to each other on the sets. Knowing the rivalry between Bipasha and Katrina, directors Abbas Mustan would shoot their scenes separately. And thankfully the two had minimal scenes together.

But just when the directors were heaving a sigh of relief with the film being complete and all set to release, there seems to be a new problem. Bipasha and Katrina have refused to promote the film together. Come to think of it, Bipasha avoided being on the sets of Chotey Ustad and a music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee when Katrina was present with the other stars of the film. Bipasha teamed up for a solo couple entry with her co-star Saif for the MTV Hero Honda Roadies promotional event of Race .

Knowing this fact and the cold war between the two actresses, the producers and directors have intentionally planned separate promotional dates for Bipasha and Katrina.

What needs to be seen is that will Yash Raj Films have to adhere to such practices as well, considering the two ladies will be working together in their next project opposite Ranbir Kapoor to be directed by Siddharth Anand.

If the rumors in the industry circles are to be believed, despite here resounding success during 2007, especially ‘Jab We Met’, and hiked performance price, Kareena Kapoor has been dropped from director Imtiaz Ali’s next film.Rejecting Kareena for a role in his film, Imtiyaz Ali has chosen the currently hot Bollywood glamour girl Deepika Padukone for the film.Worse still, in a recent interview, director Imtiyz Ali has told a magazine that he had taken Kareena Kapoor for ‘Jab We Met’ even without liking the actress’ acting qualities and he stressed that Kareena is not a good actress at all.Incidentally, Imtiaz Ali, who was the director of ‘Jab We Met’, has even ignored the recommendations of Saif Ali Khan the hero of his next untitled film, and rejected his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor to opt for Deepika Padukone.

Katrina in love with her boss

Katrina Kaif is in love with her boss. And the man in question is certainly not Salman Khan.

Well, hold on your thoughts before they start turning really wild as we are talking about her on-screen love in soon to be released ‘RACE’. An Abbas Mustan thriller, this multi-starrer has Katrina playing the role of a personal assistant who is in love with her boss. However, there is not much known about who really is really her boss (Saif Ali Khan or Akshaye Khanna) since this is the very fact which forms the integral part of the film's plot.

On her end, Katrina reveals that though her character loves her boss, he on the other hand, misunderstands it for her dedication for work and doesn't quite pay much attention for her love.

First thriller of Katrina since the beginning of her career way back in 2003 (‘Boom’), ‘Race’ is a new experience for Katrina who has been seen in back-to-back romantic/comedy hits like ‘Welcome’, ‘Partner’, ‘Namastey London’ and ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’. Katrina's upcoming films are ‘Singh is Kinng’ and ‘Yuvraaj’.

Jodha Akbar Expectations.....

Jodha Akbar is up for release very shortly and expectations have reached sky high. The hit pair of Dhoom2 – Hrithik Roshan and Aishwara Rai – are back together with the acclaimed director of Lagaan, Ashutosh Gowarikar and genius music director A R Rahman. To top it all, the story is based on the mogul king Akbar and his wife Jodha.

Some say they are going to rock as they did in Dhoom2, but we think otherwise! We found no chemistry between them in Dhoom2, but we must say they looked absolutely stunning as a pair. In Jodha Akbar they need more than ‘looking good’ to make an impact.

No doubt Aishwarya Rai is a great actress, and most importantly the prettiest of all bollywood actresses, but she goes over the top most of the time. For example the way she says ‘sunheri’ in Dhoom2. For heaven’s sake she should stop all that stupid acts. In Jodha Akbar we hope she does what she did in Guru – a controlled performance.

Aishwarya Rai has many things to cheer about in Jodha Akbar. One of them is that she looks the part. Jodha Akbar is going to be very crucial for Aishwarya Rai’s future in bollywood.

By now everyone must have understood that Hrithik Roshan is a director’s actor. He is not someone who can carry the movie entirely on his shoulders. We saw movies like Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon and Yaadein, where he was reduced to a joker because of director’s inability. He always fared good in his father’s movies because his father knows exactly what to do with him.

In Jodha Akbar, Hrithik Roshan needs to elevate his acting capabilities few notches higher to make people take him seriously as an actor. Surprisingly, Hrithik Roshan looks good with moustache in the mogul costume.

Everyone started to recognize Ashutosh after he directed Lagaan. Very few know that he is in bollywood from a very long time. He has acted in movies like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na with Shahrukh Khan and directed a disaster called Pehla Nasha. His last movie Swades met with failure even though it had country’s biggest star, Shahrukh Khan. This time he has chosen a bigger canvas. Can he pull another Lagaan?

Period movies don’t work in bollywood as they do in Hollywood. We have seen some mega disasters in form of Shahrukh’s Ashoka and Aamir’s Mangal Pandey. Hope Jodha Akbar does not suffer the same fate.

Salman, who was shooting in Hyderabad for Boney Kapoor’s film, was watching the music launch on television and promptly called Amrita, showering generous compliments on her. “I was pleasantly surprised when he called. In fact, Boney-ji, who was also with him, also spoke,” Amrita reveals excitedly.

Kangana Ranaut Dressed In A Body Suit

‘Phewww man… That’s cool!’ is the reaction doing rounds over the racy picture of actress Kangana Ranaut on the cover of Stardust. The photo on the cover of annual issue shows Kangana dressed in a body suit that gives the impression of nudity. On top of it, the headline says: ‘Naked Truth Exposed’. Though the image hasn’t kicked any controversy, it has certainly raised many eyebrows.

Well, the actress with ‘I don’t care a damn’ attitude is unmoved by all the fuss and was quoted saying, “What’s the big deal about the picture? Are any of my vital organs seen? I haven’t posed nude at all.”

Ten Things To Know About Battlestar Galactica's Razor

Note from Kristin: When a coworker receives a copy of Battlestar Galactica: Razor and shrieks as if she's won the lottery and that John Krasinski delivered the check, shirtless, you gotta let her be the first to see it, right? Such is the case with WWK's resident cult TV expert Jennifer Godwin, who devoured the two-hour movie (I'm guessing more than once), and has this to report back...

Thank gods! Battlestar is back!

Battlestar Galactica: Razor, a two-hour TV movie premiering Nov. 24 on Sci Fi, is meant to tide us over until Battlestar Galactica the series returns in February 2008, and it absolutely delivers the BSG glories we've come to expect, with a little streak of Alien and Terminator 2 thrown in for good measure.

Preview copies were distributed to the press last week, and while we're not at liberty to disclose the entire story, I did feel it was my duty as a fellow fan to check it out and share what I could.

So, for your previewing pleasure, I've distilled Razor down to a list of the top 10 things you need to know. Enjoy!

1. Setting: Razor switches back and forth in time between Lee Adama's leadership of the Battlestar Pegasus and Admiral Helena Cain's (Michelle Forbes) leadership of the Pegasus immediately following the original Cylon attack.
2. Winks at the Audience: Gina's (Pegasus Six) last name is Inviere. Inviere is Old Gemenese for resurrection. Oh, those wacky Cylons and their name games.
3. Characters: Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen—who plays the heroine of our story, Kendra Shaw—is a star of tomorrow. Casting directors, have your phones at the ready.
4. Mythology: DNA is sooo cool. Just like on Heroes these days, everything is about missing links, evolutionary dead ends and hybrids. Also, maybe a few zombies.
5. Cast: Razor features lots of Lee, Kara, Adama and Gina/Pegasus Six; a smattering of Roslin; Tigh and Sharon in passing; and no Baltar, Tyrol or Helo.
6. Pacing: The first 15 minutes are unforgivably slow.
7. Quote to Remember: "All this has happened before and will happen again."
8. Foreshadowing: Kara Thrace gets another prophecy. Girl's the most heralded thing since Buffy, I'll swear.
9. Themes: Cain, for all her robust leadership, is best understood as a "Don't."
10. Effects: Here's to the creation of the 12 humanoid Cylons for the reimagined series. It was an inspired choice, because as Razor reminds us, the original-recipe toasters really are kind of clunky and dumb. De India, there were quite a few middle level hits such as Dhamaal, and Heyy Baby.

The Rs. 5,000-crore Hindi film industry had not done badly in 2007. Along with major box-office hits such as Partner and Chak De India, there were quite a few middle level hits such as Dhamaal, and Heyy Baby. But the icing on the cake for the industry could be the two eagerly awaited releases, Om Shanti Om and Saawariya. Both films have exciting newcomers, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor.

While Deepika is a successful model, Sonam, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, is a true product of Bollywood culture. Sonam stands tall at 5 feet 9.5 inches. Dad Anil Kapoor made his debut when he was 12, but the movie, Tu Payal mein Geet, had to be shelved. No such fears for the daughter. She is the star of one of the most eagerly expected movies of the year, directed by none other than Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Of course, she was nervous during her first shot but when the camera began rolling, the nervousness disappeared. Thankfully, it was an easy shot. She had to walk down a bridge at Karjat with full make up on. Bhansali was a tough taskmaster, there was occasional tension on the sets, but Sonam carried on bravely. After all, it is not every movie aspirant who gets to work under a director like Bhansali!

Of course, Bhansali was no stranger to Sonam who was one of the assistant directors of his film Black. She compares him to a favourite school teacher, fair but strict and expecting the best from the student! She had excellent rapport with Saawariya hero, Ranbir Kapoor, another debutant. They had been childhood friends, growing up and dancing together all the time, passing compliments back and forth.

The family is proud of Sonam and backing her fully. Dad Anil pointed out she was full of surprises. She had her own views and stuck to them, like keeping her hair long. Entering films was also her decision. Sonam was studying in Singapore when she decided she would try her hand at acting. Feasting on junk food, her weight shot up to 84 kg, but thanks to her present strict regimen, she is once again svelte. Saawariya is also promoted in a big way and is linked to the ongoing cricket season with the Australians playing India in a ‘revenge’ series, following their defeat in the Twenty-Twenty tournament in South Africa.
New challenge

Deepika found the transition from modelling to acting not easy but she loved every minute of the new challenge. She attended acting classes for three months, and since the film is based on the 1970s, watched on the video dozens of films from that era. “The costumes, dialogue delivery, the movements were all so different and needed careful studying,” she recalled. In director Farah Khan and co-star Shah Rukh Khan, she found understanding and helpful seniors, always ready to advise and help. “They had seen it all, they know so much about every aspect of film making,” Deepika exclaimed. Farah and Shah Rukh promoted her in the media and everywhere and this was satisfying. With Om Shanti Om and Saawariya set to release almost at the same time, Deepika knows there would be comparisons with Sonam. But she is not bothered. The two movies are totally different, and meant for different types of audiences, she pointed out. She would be happy if both films clicked in a big way. Deepika is keeping her fingers crossed, has a few scripts at hand but will decide on them only after the release of Om Shanti Om.

Kareena Kapoor And Saif Ali Khan Romance

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan went public with their obvious but so far unacknowledged romance when they walked the ramp together for designer Manish Malhotra's grand finale show at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.

"Yes, we are not exactly shouting from the rooftops but yes, clearly we are together. And we are happy together," Saif told the media at the event.

Reports of a romantic linkup between 27-year-old Kareena and 37-year-old Saif Ali Khan first surfaced while the two were shooting for Yash Raj Films Tashan on locales in Ladakh and Rajasthan.

As their romance intensified, Kareena unceremoniously dumped former beau Shahid Kapoor August end while he was shooting for Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm in Toronto, Canada.

Thereafter, Kareena and Saif were repeatedly seen together in public places though the two continued to describe each other as good friends.

Shahid and Kareena well wishers hoped the two would reconcile once Shahid returned to Mumbai on Saturday 29 Sep 2007 after a month-and-a-half long stint in Canada.

They were, however, disappointed. Kareena met Shahid one last time on Sunday, 30 Sep 2007at a studio in Goregaon to wrap up their film together Jab We Met.

In a recent survey that we conducted, over 70% of our readers said they believed Kareena dumped Shaid to advance her career.

Kareena recently bagged a role opposite Saif Ali Khan in the film Agent Vinod to be produced by Saif's Serendipity Films and directed by Sriram Raghavan.

The film is an espionage thriller in which Saif will play a secret agent.
