Pooja Is Miss Earth-Air

Pantaloons Femina Miss India-Earth 2007 Pooja Chitgopekar won the Miss Earth-Air title at the Miss Earth pageant in Philippines on Sunday. This is the second consecutive year that the first runner-up title at the pageant has come to India. Last year, Amruta Patki had won the same title. An excited Pooja told TOI, “I feel on top of the world. All this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Femina Miss India training experts, friends and most of all my family.’’ A bit disappointed at losing out the main title, Pooja was nevertheless happy. Miss Canada Jessica Trisko, won the Miss Earth 2007 title. The coronation night of the seventh Miss Earth pageant was held at the University of Philippines Theatre in Quezon city and was hosted by TV personality and multimedia endorser KC Concepcion and MTV Asia VJ Greg “Utt’’ Panichkul. The finale was televised live on ABS-CBN, Channel 2 with replay in 35 countries covered by Star World and The Filipino Channel. For the grand finale, Pooja had worn an exclusive evening gown in shades of brown on the theme of an uprooted tree designed by Hemant Trevedi. Before the pageant, Pooja had said her USP was that she was a “simple and proud Indian’’. That charm seems to have impressed judges, as she beat 88 other contestants. Pooja had worn a pink and orange lehenga, with choli designed by Ritu Kumar as the national costume for the pageant. TNN
